Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture is the predominant tool from Traditional Chinese Medicine that I use in my practice. It is a complex medical system that is used to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well being. It is thought it originated in China more than 3,000 years ago and due to it's proven effectiveness has been embraced throughout the world. It involves inserting very fine sterile needles into predetermined acupuncture points to affect a response in the body. The needles are retained for 20 - 30 minutes at a time.
The latest research suggests that the needles stimulate neurotransmitters that
in turn send chemical messenger to the cells.
"Health isn't the absence of disease but the presence of vitality, the life force"

Acupuncture is very good at increasing this sense of vitality and if you are afraid (although it is pretty painless!) Laser Acupuncture is available. The laser uses a concentrated beam of light directed into the acupuncture site.
Number of Treatments
Since each person is unique the number of treatments required will vary. Among the determining factors are the following:
- The nature of the complaint - whether it is chronic or acute.
- The general state of health and well - being of the patient.
- The frequency and type of Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment administered may determine the outcome.
The adherence of the patient to the instructions of the practitioner can also influence the speed of recovery.
Glass or Bamboo cups are heated up and applied to the body. The cups are taken off and replaced swiftly to avoid bruising. The action on the body is to increase blood flow. When the cups are used over the lung area it helps them to expectorate phlegm.
Chinese Ear Candles are a hollow tube made from wax covered fabric. The candle in inserted into the ear as it heats up it acts like a chimney drawing out dead skin and ear wax. The procedure is good for chronic sinus conditions, re-equalizing balance after air travel or head colds. It is not used where there is infection or inflammation.
